Last weekend we got Chloe her first baseball bat and baseball - well the nerf version of both. We also watch a lot of baseball. Chloe does not really understand the game but she does understand that our team is the Mets. So she says “Go Mets!” a lot and cheers and claps when we do.
The point of all this is that now when we play with the new bat and ball she calls it “playing Mets” and I just realized she is going to be a Mets fan and it’s probably the worst thing I’ve ever done for/to her.
Nonsense. You’ve begun teaching her to overcome adversity and that pride and dignity are more important than money and rings.
Years from now maybe a boy won’t like her back, or maybe she’ll get wait-listed at her dream school, or won’t get the job she was after. Through it all she’ll be able to look up and say “Well, at least I’m doing better than The Mets.”
This means the Mets finally have a career-Met in David Wright! It is the biggest contract in Mets history.
Nice job, Sandy! Well deserved.
“I grew up a Met fan, I was developed, drafted by this team. There’s a lot of joy in putting this uniform on everyday. Hopefully it keeps going for a long time.”
